Danny is the co-leader of a gang, the T-Birds (Thunder Birds). Kenickie, first in command of the T-Birds, encourages Danny to tell them about his vacation experience, while the Pink Ladies interrogate Sandy. This scenario leads into the song “Summer Nights,” in which the two relate their view of their summer relationship with each other. It is clear that Danny is exaggerating and neither is aware of the other’s presence in high school. But neither expected to see each other again and their lives will change.
